Deployment #1- Ty Heads to Korea

Well...the rumor is true...deployments are no fun at all. However, just like Basic Training, it enabled Ty and I to dig even deeper into the fibers of our relationship. We were tested once again, as the distance between us was stretched to the limits. Being on opposite ends of the world from each other was at times a bit straining on our relationship, but certainly an experience worth struggling through. Not having been through a deployment together yet, the infamous "unknown" that the military likes to provide us with was a scary thing to face at first. But like everything else we've been faced with in this crazy journey...we survived. Getting used to the 14 hour time difference, limited communication, and all of the other glorious novelties deployments have to offer was certainly an adjustment. Like always though, we adjusted.....and "LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT". ha, yeah right. All in all though, we came out the other end with a few bumps and bruises, but survived Deployment #1 and are stronger because of it. good deal.

"Please, Just One More Picture..." ENGAGED!

On December 24, 2009, Christmas Eve, was the day Ty asked me to marry him. And well….I said Yes of course! A girl dreams about many moments in her life, getting proposed to certainly being one of them. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have wanted this moment to be any different. Three days after asking Mom and Pop’s permission for my hand in marriage, Ty took me to Acadia National Park for the afternoon. We have spent many memorable days together on the island throughout our relationship. It was a beautiful afternoon with blue skies and a fresh snowfall from the day before. The drive over to the island felt no different than any of our other drives. Ty had been bugging me the whole week to go to Acadia, and he actually began to get pretty frustrated with me because, myself being so oblivious, was planning each day to the rim and was leaving no time for a trip to Acadia. His frustrations would all make sense within an hour’s time. We finally found our way to the winter entrance to the Jordan Pond House. Jordan Pond is a special place to my family because it is where we had spread my Grandma and Grandpa’s ashes. It seems as though we have visited the spot at least once a year ever since I was little. Coincidentally, there is actually a picture of me around the age of four, sitting on a rock that sits about 20 feet from where Ty popped the question. Anyways, we found a path that went down to the pond, and we began trudging through the snow. We made it over to a little stone bridge that stretched over a brook that the pond poured into. For a little while, we just enjoyed the view of the ‘Bubbles Mountains’ that stood behind the pond. It was beautiful. Despite the cold, Ty wanted to take some pictures using the camera’s timer setting. We took a few pictures with the camera sitting across from us on one of the bridge’s stone walls. It only took a few pictures for me to begin complaining about the cold. With only one thing on his mind, Ty begged me for just one more picture. He quickly ran over to set the camera up with the timer, hurried over to where I was standing, and before I knew it he was down on one knee. Turns out, it was the most important picture we have ever taken. It captured one of the best moments of our lives that took place at a very special place in my heart. Through the tears and overwhelming emotions, I promised my commitment to him for the rest of my life.
